Remember that thing I talked about last week? So it happened and it was awesome. From the very first moment I opened my eyes at the painful hour of 6 am on Saturday, until I rolled my sandy butt home around 10 am Sunday, I had a BLAST! There were a few kerfuffles along the way, such as when we got turned around on those rural Missouri roads and almost missed the float altogether, but as Cheryl said, “As long as my ass is in the river and a beer is in my hand, it’s going to be a good day!”
The best part about the whole event was the TALKING. Cheryl and I carpooled with our friend Monica and the three of us talked the entire 2 hours down and most of the 1.5 hours back. On the actual float, we met up with two more friends, Mary & Lauren, and the five of us talked our way down that river all day. We talked about funny stuff and bitchy stuff and some really hard, deeper stuff. The topics were wide and varied, the stories were heartfelt, smart, and funny. I learned a lot of stuff from these women about relationships, parenting, and life. I can’t speak for the rest of them, but that day was something I NEEDED, like I need oxygen. Once I recovered from the sunburn and the hangover, I felt rejuvenated and refreshed. As cheesy as it sounds, I really did feel like I came back a better wife and mother.
I’d highly recommend this to any woman out there who is feeling worn down, stressed out, and over worked. Whether you’re a mother or not, wife or not, whathaveyou. Women get something from spending relaxing time with other women, and it is not, in my opinion, replaceable by anything else.
